was the title I put on my message board that I have been a part of since early 2001. It's a "Preparing for Pregnancy" board that was very helpful and supportive in the months and years before my daughter was conceived and born, and I still hang out there sometimes. I had just gone back because my husband and I had decided a while ago that after the marathon, we would forget the yucky birth control and "see what happened." Well, one moment of insanity right before we left for Florida, and before you know it, I see two pink lines this morning!
Now I'm always pretty cautious, but I've had one of these pregnancy things before, and it ended in a real, live, baby, who commands attention pretty much all the time. So we are saying things like, "if it works out" and stuff, but still trying to plan for another real, live, baby who will hopefully be making an appearance around October 1 of this year.
I feel more grounded than last time. I feel more realistic and less nervous, and that feels really good. I think last time I got nervous about the birth from the beginning and everything ended up not going according to plan anyway, so I'm less nervous about that.
My job. Ah, the job. I am currently 3/4 time, and lovely dh and I have already talked about me going back to being half time as I was before the fall. I can't, on my bad days, imagine doing what I do with two kids to take care of, even with one in preschool. I can't imagine knocking on peoples' doors with a big belly...it's craziness. Maybe it'll work better, but right now I can't seem to muster caring. I have lots of energy, but not necessarily for my job, if that makes sense.
I did go for a run today. It was my first post-marathon run and coincidentally my first pregnant run. It went well. My knees are still very stiff, but the rest of me felt great if very hungry. That's something I remember from being pregnant with my daughter...constant, aching, hunger, except after a big meal, when I would just feel bloated and nauseous. Oh, the joys!
Love,
Beth, unexpectedly and joyfully incubating a new little pea

Oh, I forgot....
When I was listing all the stuff about myself, I forgot to say that I ran a marathon last week, duh, silly me. I really don't feel that different except for the achy knees. Plus I'm very hungry and tired, but that could be due to, ahem, other things (PMS, anyone?).
I ran the Disney marathon and it took me forever. Well, not forever, but six hours and fifteen minutes, which is a really long time. I had no idea it would take me that long but my knees sort of had other plans, as well as the rest of me. I had a terrible training run of 23 miles that "only" took me 4 hours 45 minutes, so I figured even if I tanked the marathon it would still be around 5 hours 15 minutes. Nope, an hour later. I used to post on some runner's sites, but I've been embarassed to post there because I can't believe my time. I know it was my first marathon and I swore that I didn't have a time goal, but I really did.
That's probably enough bitching, because I do know that it's a big deal to finish one at all. Disney was great...running through the parks was amazing because as much as I don't want to, I do buy into the Disney "magic."
Oh, my kid is awake. I will return to blog another day!
